Lecce Files Legislation To End Ontario Teacher Strike
Lecce rose inside the legislature just after 1 p.m. to introduce the bill, which is titled “An Act to Keep Students in Class.” If passed, the bill would “end any ongoing strike or lockout by, or in relation to, school board employees represented by CUPE.” It will also effectively impose a new four-year collective bargaining agreement on union-represented workers. “Today the Ford government introduced legislation to force low-wage education workers into further poverty,” Laura Walton, who is the president of Ontario’s CUPE School Board of Unions, said during a news conference at Queen’s Park shortly after the filing of the legislation....
